What is French style?

New York, London, Milan and Tokyo may be some of the most fashionable places in the world. But one city always seem to win the award for most-wanted style:: Paris, where the people strolling down the avenues mix timeless and trendy pieces in a way that appears effortless.

What is French style?
- the Cultivation of Effortless Chic.

They envy us for the 'je ne sais quoi' that is so characteristic of French style, the effortless, unstudied chic of it: the faded jeans of Charlotte Gainsbourg.

French women are more sober in their clothes choices than the flamboyant Italians or the eccentric English.
We live in a country where female elegance is anything but ostentatious.

The french fashion icons, recognized for their style the world over, have a thoroughly bourgeois appeal: Chiara Mastroianni, Audrey Tautou, Fançoise Hardy, Isabel Marant--the least you can say of them is that not one is notable for extravagance.
A long way, indeed, from Katy Perry, Courtney Love, or Donatella Versace.
Even if they've spent hours getting ready, it doesn't show.

The French woman is not overdone in any way. The French woman fears nothing; she will go out without fixing her hair, with unpainted nails and no makeup. She always remains elegant.

So the french message is: keep it simple.
